About our Freestanding Standpipe Taps

Info:

Freestanding Bath Taps on Stand Pipes epitomise the classical bathroom. The format originates from the late 19th Century where fitted bath tubs were starting to become popular in grand residences. Early manufacturers adopted a style with a rounded ‘ball-joint’ look. The inspiration for this design is not known, however, it echoes the look of industrial valves and their handles. These early tap designers added functionality with a hand shower that could be used alongside the bath tap. Equally, two products in one if you like. Such was the popularity of this format that the basic design was copied all over the western world. However, the original bath shower mixer taps remained in a bare brass condition. This, as we all know, will tarnish very quickly. From the mid 1920’s chrome plating was being developed and the bathroom industry was an ‘early adopter’. Henceforth, the fashion moved away from bare brass and chrome plating became the norm. Moving to the modern day, the basic design hasn’t really changed. Correspondingly, the taps are still cast from high quality brass and polished by hand. Chrome plating is applied to a modern specification and ceramic quarter-turn valves are fitted. Another key point you can see with our taps, is that we’ve been careful to faithfully replicate the original designs. We also made sure that only high quality brass is used together with the best possible valves.

The Stand Pipes.

With these taps on top of the stand pipes, you can choose from the bath shower mixer version, with its purposeful hand shower or go for a more minimal look with just the mixer (bath filler). Choose from three different designs of hand wheel or lever from our Beaufort, Amie or Manette ranges. The stand pipes are supplied in two height options. Choose either 700mm or 800mm high to suit your bath height. Should you require you can add our newly designed standpipe mounted glass shelf to your tap set up. All items can be purchased directly on our website or added to your Wish List. If you need any technical help or advice, give us an old fashioned telephone call on 01255 831605, we’re happy to talk.
